On September 9 one of our boom trucks set up on Blake Street in LoDo to swing a new rooftop HVAC unit onto a two-story brick building. Downtown lifts are their own kind of job. Tight streets, sidewalks full of foot traffic, restaurant patios on both sides, and a roof that sits behind a parapet you can’t see over from the street.
This one started before we got to Blake Street. Our delivery truck and trailer picked the new Carrier unit up from Carrier and brought it downtown, so it was sitting next to the crane when the boom went up. One call covers both the delivery and the lift. The contractor does not have to line up a freight delivery, find somewhere to stage a crated unit on a downtown sidewalk, or wait on two companies to show up in the right order.
The boom went up and over the storefronts, and the unit came off the trailer and onto the roof curb, where the HVAC crew was waiting to land it. That is the whole point of a boom truck for this kind of work: it rolls in, does the lift, and rolls out before the block gets busy.
A note on the boom in the photo. Getting a unit onto a downtown roof is rarely about raw capacity. It is about reach. The truck has to clear the awnings and the trees and still put the load exactly where the curb is. We run the numbers on weight, height, and setback before we ever leave the yard.
